چکیده

Electrochemically formed porous silicon (PS) can be released from the bulk silicon substrate by underetching at increased current density. Using this technique, two types of channels containing free-standing layers of PS were constructed, which were called multi-walled microchannels (MW Cs). They can be used in devices like microsieves, microbatteries, and porous electrodes. Two types of MW C were made: the “conventional” version, consisting of two or more coaxially constructed microchannels separated by a suspended PS membrane, and the buried variety, where a PS membrane is suspended halfway an etched cavity surrounded by silicon nitride walls. The latter is more robust. The pore size of the PS was measured using transmission electron microscopy and field emission gun scanning electron microscopy (FEGSEM) and found to be of the order of 7 nm. [462]

Suspended, Porous Cellulose Acetate Membranes For Microdialysis Use

Porous cellulose acetate membranes were suspended over 75 micron wide silicon microchannels. The microchannels are formed when a viscous polymer lacquer is directly spin cast onto etched silicon cavities (Fig. 1). Standard fabrication processes are used to create the channel, preventing the need for adhesives, substrate bonding, or other complex assembly procedures. These microchannels can allo...

Finite Element Modeling of the Vibrational Behavior of Single-Walled Silicon Carbide Nanotube/Polymer Nanocomposites

The multi-scale finite element method is used to study the vibrational characteristics of polymer matrix reinforced by single-walled silicon carbide nanotubes. For this purpose, the nanoscale finite element method is employed to simulate the nanotubes at the nanoscale. While, the polymer is considered as a continuum at the larger scale. The polymer nanotube interphase is simulated by spring ele...

Molecular transport through nanoporous silicon nitride membranes produced from self-assembling block copolymers.

To achieve fast and selective molecular filtration, membrane materials must ideally exhibit a thin porous skin and a high density of pores with a narrow size distribution. Here, we report the fabrication of nanoporous silicon nitride membranes (NSiMs) at the full wafer scale using a versatile process combining block copolymer (BCP) self-assembly and conventional photolithography/etching techniq...

Structure and composition of tubular aggregates of skeletal muscle fibres.

Unusual regions of densely packed membranous tubules known as tubular aggregates (TAs) have been observed in skeletal muscle fibres of mammals under numerous pathological conditions but also in health. Their causality is unclear. It is neither known whether TAs are destructive and should be treated or whether they have a compensating function in an endangered muscle. In spite of many similariti...

Oxygen Absorption in Free-Standing Porous Silicon: A Structural, Optical and Kinetic Analysis

Porous silicon (PSi) is a nanostructured material possessing a huge surface area per unit volume. In consequence, the adsorption and diffusion of oxygen in PSi are particularly important phenomena and frequently cause significant changes in its properties. In this paper, we study the thermal oxidation of p+-type free-standing PSi fabricated by anodic electrochemical etching. These free-standing...
